Caring for your eyes doesn\u2019t have to be complicated.\nSurprisingly, many patients are unsure of how to properly take care of their\neyes to ensure long-term protection and good vision. Here are just some of the\nbasic dos and don’ts to optimally care for your eyes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dos for Your Eyes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Eat a Healthy Diet \u2013 <\/strong>A\ndiet rich in vitamins, anti-oxidants and other vital nutrients is important to\nmaintain eye health. Vitamin A and beta-carotene in carrots are particularly\ngood for your eyes. Also, seasonal vegetables, especially dark green leafy\nveggies such as spinach, broccoli and fruits such as watermelon are good for\nyour eyes. These foods contain lutein, an antioxidant that protects the eyes\nfrom damage and boosts eye health. Also, eat fish that are high in Omega-3\nfatty acids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wear Sunglasses <\/strong>\u2013\nWear sunglasses whenever you are outside to protect the eyes from harmful\nultraviolet (UV) rays, especially during peak UV hours (10 am\u20134 pm). Even on a\ncloudy day, you should always wear high-quality sunglasses when you go outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give Your Eyes a\nBreak <\/strong>\u2013 Follow the 20-20-20 rule when working long hours in front of the\ncomputer. For every 20 minutes of screen time, focus on an object that\u2019s at\nleast 20 feet away from you for 20 seconds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have Your Eyes<\/strong> Examined <\/strong>\u2013 This is a must-do. Even if\nyour vision is fine, visit your eye doctor regularly. They can identify any\nsigns\/early symptoms of potentially dangerous vision-related and other health conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019ts for Your Eyes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Work in Poor Light<\/strong>\n\u2013 Reading or doing any other activity under poor lighting conditions can strain\nyour eyes. This can result in a headache, pain in the eyes and other issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smoke<\/strong> \u2013 Smoking tobacco increases your risk of eye issues such as Age-related Macular Degeneration<\/a>, cataracts<\/a> and other eye problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
