It is a fact that dry eyes are no fun. Fortunately, there are several treatment options available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treatments for Mild Dry Eye:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use over-the-counter preservative-free\nlubricating artificial tears at least 4 times per day or more if desired,\nespecially following LASIK.<\/li><li>Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of water.\nStaying hydrated helps produce natural tears more effectively.<\/li><li>Avoid excessive amounts of caffeine, which has a\ndrying\/diuretic effect.<\/li><li>Add dietary omega-3 fatty acids, such as 1000mg\nmolecularly distilled fish oil oral soft gels, to optimize the oily portion of\nthe tear film and prevent tear evaporation.<\/li><li>Use emollient eye drops, such as Soothe or\nEndura, which contain lipid emollient lubricants to stabilize the lipid layer\nof the tears and promote overall tear stability.<\/li><li>Use a room humidifier to humidify environmental\nair. This can make a very significant difference. By putting a humidifier in\nyour bedroom or office, moist air can actually keep the eye surface hydrated,\ninstead of dry air depleting moisture out of the eyes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treatments for Severe Dry Eye: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Restasis eye drops improve natural tear\nproduction. By reducing ocular surface inflammation, the tear glands can\nproduce natural tears more efficiently.<\/li><li>Steroid eye drops treating inflammation on the\nocular surface has been shown to increase tear production to improve eye\ncomfort.<\/li><li>Low dose oral doxycycline pills treat any\nunderlying blepharitis and stabilize the tear film.<\/li><li>At a low dose, doxycycline has anti-inflammatory\nproperties, rather than antibiotic properties, to treat rosacea and\nblepharitis.<\/li><li>Punctal plugs help tears stay in the eye longer.\nEye drops and tears naturally drain through tiny openings located into the\ninner angle of the eyelids to the nasal passages.
